Loss of a loved one can turn our world upside down. How can we recover and how can we recreate ourselves without them in our lives? Debbie Weiss turned to writing in 2013, when she lost her partner and high school sweetheart of 32 years and she found herself living on her own for the first time in her life. She is the author of “Available As Is: A Midlife Widow’s Search for Love” about creating a new life and finding hope after widowhood. Her writing has been published in the New York Times’ “Modern Love” column and Huffington Post among other publications. A former lawyer, she’s proudest of earning her MFA in creative writing in 2020 at age 56.
